Sausage and Gravy Biscuit Casserole

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground breakfast sausage
  • 1 8 count refrigerated biscuits
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray a 9x13 baking dish with nonstick spray and set aside.
  • In a large skillet, cook and crumble the ground sausage until cooked through. Drain and set aside.
  • In a medium saucepan, heat the butter until melted.
  • Whisk in the flour and cook 1-2 minutes.
  • Add the salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes.
  • Slowly add the milk, whisking as you add.
  • Cook on medium heat, whisking frequently, until gravy thickens.
  • Take the biscuits and cut each one into quarters. Layer these in the bottom of the 9x13.
  • Take about 1/4 of the cooked crumbled sausage and stir it into the gravy.
  • Sprinkle the remaining sausage over top of the biscuits.
  • Sprinkle the shredded cheese over top.
  • In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together 6 eggs and the heavy cream.
  • Pour this over top of the biscuits, sausage, and cheese.
  • Finally, pour the gravy over top of everything.
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes, until cooked through. You can check by inserting a fork in the center and making sure the biscuit dough is cooked through.
