Ingredients

  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Approximately 1 tablespoon honey (or to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped chives, plus more for garnish

Instructions

  • Start by heating up a skillet on medium-low. Add the butter and olive oil, and once that butter is melting, toss in the thinly sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Let these onions cook slowly, stirring occasionally. The goal is golden, caramelized perfection, which will take about 20 to 30 minutes.
  • About 5 minutes before the onions are done, turn off the heat and drizzle in that honey. Stir it in well and let the natural sugars from the onions and honey mingle.
  • Once the onions have cooled slightly, grab a big bowl and combine the sour cream, cream cheese, and those caramelized onions. Toss in a tablespoon of chopped chives for a fresh pop of flavor and color. Season with salt and pepper to taste, and mix everything together.
  • Serve and Enjoy! Scoop the dip into a bowl, sprinkle a little extra chopped chives on top for garnish, and serve it alongside your favorite dipping goodies.
