How to Make Strawberry Danishes

Ingredients you’ll need for this recipe
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ⅓ cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed (we used Pepperidge Farm Puff Pastry Frozen Pastry Dough Sheets, 2-count, 17.3 oz box)
  • ⅔ cup strawberry jam or preserves
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • ⅔ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp milk

Strawberry Danish Process Ingredients

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. In a small bowl, mix the cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Set aside.

3. Cut each puff pastry sheet into thirds, then in half, giving you 12 rectangles. Arrange on the baking sheet, leaving space between each. Use a butterknife to score ¼–½ inch from the edge all around each pastry.

4. Fill the center of each pastry with the cream cheese mixture, then top with strawberry jam.

5. Beat the egg in a small bowl and brush the edges of each pastry with it.

6. Bake for 12–14 minutes, or until golden and puffed.

7. Mix the powdered sugar and milk together, then drizzle over the warm pastries.

Serve and Enjoy!

Important Recipe Notes

  • Make sure your puff pastry is fully thawed but still cold. This helps it puff up properly in the oven.
  • Don’t Overfill: Use a moderate amount of cream cheese and jam—too much filling can leak out during baking.
  • Score ¼–½ inch from the edges carefully. This allows the pastry to puff in the center while keeping the edges intact.
  • Brush the edges gently with the egg wash to get a golden, shiny finish without dripping onto the filling.
  • Best served warm, but you can store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven for a few minutes to regain flakiness.
  • Swap strawberry jam for raspberry, blueberry, or apricot preserves. You can also add a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg to the cream cheese for extra flavor.
