How to Make Oreo Turkeys

Ingredients you’ll need for this recipe
  • 24 Oreo cookies (any flavor, Regular or Double Stuff)
  • 120 pieces of candy corn
  • ½ cup dark chocolate melting wafers
  • 48 candy eyeballs
  • Orange Reese’s Pieces, cut in half
  • Red cookie icing

Step-by-Step Guide

1. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the dark chocolate wafers on a low or defrost setting in 30-second increments. Stir after each interval until the chocolate is smooth and set it aside to cool slightly.

2. Line a baking tray or board with parchment paper for easy transport. Carefully separate the Oreos, placing the halves on the parchment paper.

3. Add a small amount of melted chocolate towards the top of half the cookies. Work in small batches of 4-6 cookies to prevent the chocolate from setting too quickly.

4. Arrange 5 candy corn pieces on top of each cookie for the turkey’s feathers, gently pressing them into the chocolate.

5. Place the remaining Oreo halves on top of the candy corn feathers.

6. Use a skewer to dab a small amount of melted chocolate on the front of the cookie where the eyes will go.

7. Press the candy eyeballs into place.

8. Dip the skewer in chocolate again and add a small dab below the eyes. Place a halved Reese’s Pieces on top for the turkey’s beak.

9. Using the red cookie icing, pipe a small line next to the beak to create the turkey’s wattle or snood.

10. Transfer the Oreo Turkeys to the refrigerator to set for 5-10 minutes. Once set, they’re ready to enjoy!

Serve and Enjoy!

Important Recipe Notes

  • Press the candy corn gently into the Oreo filling so they stay in place. Double Stuf Oreos work best because there’s more room to anchor the candy.
  • When melting the chocolate, use a small microwave-safe bowl and heat the chocolate wafers in short bursts, stirring often to avoid burning. You just need enough to act like “glue.”
  • After assembling, let the turkeys sit for 15–20 minutes so the chocolate can harden before moving or serving.
  • If making with younger kids, help with the chocolate and small candy pieces—they’re fun to decorate, but sticky fingers and wiggly eyes can get a little messy!
  • For storing, keep your Oreo Turkeys in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3–4 days. If your house is warm, you can refrigerate them to keep the chocolate from melting—just let them sit out for a few minutes before serving so the candy isn’t too hard.
  • If you’re making these for a bake sale, place each turkey in a cupcake liner or small treat bag to keep them from sticking together. Add a simple label or tag for a festive touch—these always go fast on the treat table!
