Important Recipe Notes
- Use apple pie filling, not fresh apples, for the best texture and to keep this recipe quick and easy.
- Spread the cake mix evenly over the apple filling, but do not stir everything together. The layers should stay separate.
- Cut the butter into small pieces and place them all over the top so the cake mix bakes evenly and develops a golden, buttery crust.
- Halfway through baking, gently press any dry cake mix into the apple filling. This helps prevent dry patches on the finished cobbler.
- Every oven bakes a little differently, so if the top is not golden after 1 hour, bake for an additional 5–10 minutes.
- Let the cobbler cool for about 10–15 minutes before serving. This gives the filling time to thicken and makes it easier to scoop.
- Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or a drizzle of caramel sauce.
- Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- Reheat individual servings in the microwave for 30–45 seconds or warm larger portions in a 325°F oven until heated through.
