How to Make Caramel Apple Trifle Cups

Ingredients you’ll need for this recipe
  • 3 Granny Smith apples
  • 2 tsp lemon juice
  • A pinch of nutmeg
  • 1½ tsp cinnamon
  • 4 tbsp brown sugar
  • 12 oz pound cake, cubed
  • 8 oz Cool Whip
  • 6 tbsp caramel sauce

Step by Step Guide

1. Start by peeling and dicing your apples. Throw them into a medium saucepan with the lemon juice, nutmeg, cinnamon, and brown sugar.

2. Let that all simmer together for about 10 minutes until the apples soften. Let this cool before assembling.

3. Cut your pound cake into bite-sized cubes. If you want you can pipe the Cool Whip using a piping bag, or just use a spoon.

4. In a glass or small jar, layer it up like this: Pound cake cubes – A scoop of warm spiced apples – A drizzle of caramel sauce – A swirl of Cool Whip. Then repeat the layers and finish with a little extra caramel drizzle on top.

Important Recipe Notes

  • Let the apples cool before layering! If they’re too warm, they can melt the Cool Whip and make the layers messy.
  • Any cake works – Pound cake, angel food cake, or even leftover vanilla cupcakes can be chopped up and used!
  • Use store-bought caramel sauce to save time, but if you have homemade on hand, even better!
  • To Make-ahead, you can prep the apple mixture a day in advance and store it in the fridge. Assemble the trifles just before serving for the best texture.
