How to Make Cheddar Pickle Cheeseball

Ingredients you’ll need for this recipe
  • 16 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill, chopped, plus more for garnish
  • 2 tablespoons dill pickle relish
  • ½ cup dill pickle slices, roughly chopped
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • Salt and pepper

Step by Step Guide

1. Simply stir together softened cream cheese with garlic powder, fresh dill, pickle relish, chopped pickle slices, and half of the shredded cheddar.

2. Mix it well until everything’s combined, then shape it into a ball and pop it in the fridge for at least an hour to let the flavors meld.

3. When you’re ready to serve, roll the cheese ball in the remaining cheddar and sprinkle on a little more dill.

Serve and Enjoy!

Important Recipe Notes

  • Soften the cream cheese – Let it sit out for about 30 minutes before mixing. It makes combining everything so much easier and gives you a smoother cheese ball.
  • Use dill pickles, not sweet – The tanginess of dill pickles balances the richness of the cheese. Sweet pickles will change the flavor entirely.
  • Chop pickles finely – You want little bites of pickle throughout, not big chunks that make the cheese ball hard to shape.
  • After mixing, give it a quick taste before forming the ball. Add more salt, pepper, or dill if needed to suit your flavor preference.
  • Plastic wrap helps hold the shape and keeps it fresh while the flavors meld in the fridge.
  • This cheese ball can be made a day in advance and stored in the fridge until you’re ready to serve—just wait to roll it in shredded cheese until right before serving.
  • Serve chilled but let it sit at room temp for about 10 minutes before guests dig in. It makes spreading easier!
