Important Recipe Notes
- Use sturdy tortilla chips. Restaurant-style tortilla chips work best because they hold the toppings without getting soggy. Thin chips can break once the beef and beans are added.
- Spread the chips in an even layer. Try not to pile the chips too high on the pan. A single layer helps the cheese melt evenly and makes sure every chip gets some toppings.
- Drain the beef well. After cooking the ground beef, drain any grease so the nachos do not become oily while baking.
- Add cold toppings after baking. Guacamole, sour cream, tomatoes, and olives should be added after the nachos come out of the oven so they stay fresh and cool.
- Serve right away. Nachos are best enjoyed while the cheese is still warm and melted. If they sit too long, the chips can soften.
- Easy topping swaps. You can add extras like shredded lettuce, green onions, pico de gallo, or extra jalapeños if your family likes more flavor.
