Smash Burger Tacos

There are two things my family never says no to: burgers and tacos. So when I saw the idea of Smash Burger Tacos making the rounds, I had to try it. This easy taco dinner is perfect for a busy weeknight.

They’re juicy smash burgers cooked right onto tortillas, folded up taco-style with melty cheese, a creamy burger sauce, and all the simple toppings that make every bite delicious.

How to Make Smash Burger Tacos

Ingredients you’ll need for the smash burgers
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 8 small flour tortillas
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Cooking oil for frying

Ingredients you’ll need for the sauce
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup dill pickle relish
  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp white vinegar
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp garlic powder

Ingredients you’ll need for the toppings
  • 1 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
  • ¼ cup chopped onions

Step by Step Guide

1. Season the ground beef with salt and pepper. Divide into 8 equal balls.

2. Press each beef ball flat onto a tortilla using your fingers.

3. Heat a skillet with a little oil. Place the tortilla in the pan, meat side down. Press with a spatula and cook for 1.5–2 minutes.

4. Flip it over, sprinkle on mozzarella, cover, and cook another 1.5–2 minutes. Remove and set aside.

5. In a small bowl, mix mayo, relish, mustard, vinegar, and spices. Stir until smooth.

6. Add shredded lettuce and chopped onions on top of the burger, drizzle with sauce, and fold like a taco.

Serve and Enjoy!

Important Recipe Notes

  • Use small tortillas like street taco-size tortillas, so the beef cooks evenly and they’re easy to fold like a taco.
  • Make sure to press the beef thin to help it cook quickly and get those crispy edges we love in a smash burger.
  • Preheat your skillet – A hot pan is key to getting that good sear on the beef without overcooking the tortilla.
  • Once you flip the taco, sprinkle the cheese right away and cover the pan for quick, melty results.
  • Sauce can be made ahead – The burger sauce keeps well in the fridge for a few days, so feel free to mix it earlier to save time.
