Step-by-Step Guide

1. Frost cupcakes with white icing and then crush graham crackers. Drizzle the graham crackers over the top as sand.

2. Cut peach rings in half. Cut the tooth pick in half and press into each side of the orange slices. Add the peach rings to each end. Poke a toothpick into the bottom of the orange slice and feed it into the top of the cupcake.

Important Recipe Notes

  • Start with chilled cupcakes. Cold cupcakes are easier to frost and decorate without making a mess.
  • Use thick frosting. If the frosting is too soft, refrigerate it for 10–15 minutes before decorating so the candy pieces stay in place.
  • Crush the graham crackers finely. This creates a realistic “sand” effect and helps them stick to the frosting.
  • Trim toothpicks carefully. Use food-only wire cutters or kitchen shears, and leave enough length to securely hold the candy claws and eyes.
  • Decorate just before serving. This keeps the graham cracker “sand” crisp and prevents the candy from becoming sticky.
  • Keep refrigerated. Store the finished cupcakes in the refrigerator until you’re ready to serve, especially during warm weather.
  • Customize the decorations. Add blue sanding sugar, candy seashells, or gummy fish around the cupcakes for an even more festive beach theme.
  • Make a larger batch easily. This recipe makes 3 cupcakes, but you can double or triple the ingredients for parties, birthdays, or classroom treats.
