How to Make Football Cupcakes

Ingredients you’ll need for this recipe
  • 13.25 oz box Betty Crocker Chocolate Fudge Cake Mix
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 cups chocolate frosting
  • ½ cup white frosting

football cupcake ingredients

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Start by preheating your oven to 350°F. Then, follow the directions on the cake mix box and mix the ingredients together—water, oil, eggs, and the cake mix. Give it a good stir until everything’s nice and smooth.

2. Line your cupcake pan with the cupcake liners. Fill each liner about halfway with the cake batter.

3. Pop them in the oven and bake for about 14-18 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Once done, remove from the oven and let them cool for 1-2 hours.

4. Once the cupcakes have cooled, start with the chocolate frosting. Fill a pastry bag with the frosting and attach the 1M frosting tip. Pipe the frosting onto the cupcakes in a back-and-forth motion, making a football shape.

5. For the final touch, grab your white frosting and a small round frosting tip. Pipe on the laces to complete the football look.

Serve and Enjoy!

Important Recipe Notes

  • Let the cupcakes cool completely before frosting, so it doesn’t melt.
  • Use a 1M tip and a piping bag for creating the football swirls.
  • Use brown cupcake liners to give a more realistic football appearance, but any liner color works.
  • Cupcakes can be baked a day in advance and frosted the next day. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
  • If frosting is too soft, chill it for 10-15 minutes before piping to hold the shape better.
