How to Make Copycat Valentine’s Lofthouse Sugar Cookies
Ingredients you’ll need for this recipe

Step-by-Step Guide
1. Line your 9×11 baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cornstarch, and salt. Set this aside!

3. In a separate bowl, beat together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

4. Next, add in the egg, followed by the sour cream, vanilla, and almond extract. Mix it all up until smooth and well combined.

5. Now, slowly fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture. Stir until a dough forms—don’t overmix!

6. Shape the dough into a ball, flatten it slightly, and wrap it in plastic wrap. Pop it in the fridge for 1 hour.
7. Once the dough is chilled, prep your surface with flour and grab your rolling pin. Roll the dough out to about ¼ inch thickness. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to make cute Valentine’s cookies, and place them on your parchment-lined baking sheet.

8. Preheat your oven to 375°F, and bake the cookies for 8-9 minutes, or until the edges are just starting to turn color. Don’t overbake!
9. While the cookies are cooling (about 20 minutes), dye your buttercream frosting with a few drops of red food dye for a festive touch. Once the cookies are cool, spread a thin layer of frosting on each, and sprinkle with Valentine’s-themed sprinkles!

Serve and Enjoy!

Important Recipe Notes
- Chill the dough to help the cookies hold their shape while baking, and give them that soft, thick texture like real Lofthouse cookies.
- Don’t overbake: These cookies should stay pale in color. Take them out as soon as the edges are lightly set — they’ll continue to bake a little on the pan.
- If you don’t like almonds, you can leave them out or replace them with more vanilla.
- Lightly flour your surface and rolling pin so the dough doesn’t stick. Aim for about ¼ quarter-inch thickness for soft, fluffy cookies.
- Make sure the cookies are completely cool before adding frosting, or it will melt and slide off.
- You can make the dough 1–2 days in advance and store it in the fridge, or freeze baked cookies (without frosting) for up to a month.
- Use a small offset spatula for smooth frosting, then add sprinkles right away so they stick before the buttercream sets.
